To me it is only a shadow of it's former self as opposed to ten years ago. I mean, Roland's is still there. They do not get near the crowd that they used to on Friday and Saturday.
There a few other bars on Penn, but not much on Smallman anymore. Here are some of the many places that no longer exist in The Strip. I came up with twenty and I am sure there are more. Maybe others can remember. What else is there that caters to the dance crowd? I remember people having to park all the way up past Benkovitz on weekend nights. It was a really hot scene. What happened? Was it a few token shootings that scared people away?
Compared to years ago, nightlife is non-existent in The Strip. Last edited by nuwaver88; at PM. Metropolis, Privilege, Bash, Phlo. Dreamz, plus all the other club names that went thru that location on th street. The "ghetto" factor moved in and the long time club goers moved on to other areas. Highly unlikely if the club scene really ever returns down there unless a lot of change. I think there was a country bar in that building called Smallville also. Smallville was on Smallman where Bash use to be and next to Metropolis.

If I had a dollar for each club that went thru there since day one, there would be a nice stack of them.
There was an Asian themed club up there too on the 2nd floor a few years back, but be danged if I can remember the name. Nightclub areas seem to come and go, not just here but everywhere. Years ago the 70s it was Market Square that was hot, before that it was Liberty Avenue in the 50s. Other cities have experienced the same thing: the Flats in Cleveland and Buckhead in Atlanta. Each nightclub chases the latest trend, which never lasts very long. I remember Sunday nights at Rosebuds after a Steelers home game, sometimes half the team would be there.
